Praia do Barril in Santa Luzia was once one of these settlements. The simple houses you can find there have belonged for many years to the families of fishermen who devoted themselves to tuna fishing. These very brave men went to sea at night, carrying the huge anchors that you can see on the dunes out to the boats, which would be used to fix kilometres of nets to the bottom of the sea. All of this history, all of this past, is remembered in every corner of this beach, in every doorway and every house … come and find out more! If you want to find out more about this old art, go to the Hotel Vila Galé Albacora. In the museum there you can find a number of pictures illustrating the lives of the fishermen as well as a model of the “Medo das Cascas” tuna net station. And don’t miss the video which will enable you to relive the past of this art. After this experience you will want nothing more than to be able to spend the night in a place which has so many stories to tell.
